Mission

The CFAR’s first Scientific Working Group, the END HIV SWG, was designed to incubate new collaborations between biomedical and behavioral/social science researchers and public health departments. The END HIV SWG seeded impressive new partnerships that led to innovative NIH-funded projects that are developing strategies to end the HIV epidemic with Chicago and Illinois as national models.

The END HIV SWG accomplished its goal through fostering multilevel collaborations that draw on the various expertise at Third Coast CFAR institutions: biomedical, behavioral, and implementation sciences at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago; population-level data and large-scale intervention initiatives by the Chicago Department of Public Health; policy research, advocacy, and provider/patient education by AIDS Foundation of Chicago; and community services and consultation provided by Center on Halsted, Howard Brown Health, AllianceChicago, PACPI, and other CFAR partners.

The Third Coast CFAR leadership announced the new Innovation and Implementation for Impact on Ending the HIV Epidemic Scientific Working Group (EHE SWG) in spring 2019.
