Symposium Overview
On Thursday, November 1, 2018, the Third Coast Center for AIDS Research hosted the 2018 Annual Symposium Ending the HIV Epidemic: Think Globally, Act Locally at the Gordon Center for Integrative Science at the University of Chicago. This multidisciplinary symposium discussed important connections between HIV research in global settings and the lessons researchers can apply to their domestic work. Examples of the “global to local” approach included innovations in HIV testing, prevention and care, as well as implementation science approaches to scale up of new interventions, and the role of research on non-communicable diseases and HIV.
Ambassador Deborah L. Birx, United States Global AIDS Coordinator provided a keynote lecture on the scale-up of HIV treatment through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) programs.
