The Third Coast Center for AIDS Research is pleased to announce that Dr. Lauren B. Beach has been named an inaugural Third Coast HIV-related Cardiovascular and Sleep Disorders Career Development Program K12 (TC-CS K12) Scholar. For her project, “CVD Algorithm Designed to Elucidate Consequences of Cytokines, Environment, SES, and HIV (CADENCES HIV),” Dr. Beach, a research assistant professor of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, will investigate social and biological mechanisms that contribute to heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) among people living with HIV. With proposal lead mentors Drs. Mercedes Carnethon and Lisa Hirschhorn, Dr. Beach will also pursue mentored training in structural equation modeling, predictive analytics, and machine learning.

Dr. Beach will participate in career development activities sponsored by the Third Coast Cardiovascular and Sleep Disorders Career Development Program, a multi-institution and cross-disciplinary initiative between the University of Chicago and Northwestern University, funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (K12HL143959).
