Dr. Grinspoon is a Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Director of the MGH Program in Nutritional Metabolism, Director of the Nutrition Obesity Research Center at Harvard and Endowed Chair in Neuroendocrinology and Metabolism. He has had a long-standing interest in the mechanisms and treatment strategies for cardiovascular disease in HIV Disease. His contributions include the first demonstration of increased arterial inflammation in association with immune activation in HIV, and demonstration of atypical vulnerable coronary plaque lesions in this population. He Chaired the American Heart Association State of the Science Conference on Cardiovascular Disease in HIV-infected patients. He is Co-PI, of the REPRIEVE trial, the largest CVD primary prevention trial in HIV, enrolling over 7000 patients in 11 different countries. The study aims to harness pleiotropic anti-inflammatory effects of statins on immune activation to prevent CVD in HIV, with a large mechanistic CTA angiography sub-study including flow cytometry to immune-phenotype responses.
