Description

The TC CFAR’s Clinical Sciences Core (CSC) will lead a workshop describing its electronic HIV datamarts containing comprehensive electronic health record data for research on individuals treated and tested for HIV at the University of Chicago Medicine or Northwestern Medicine. The CSC will also provide details about HIV population inclusions, data elements included in the datamarts, successful prior research projects, and how researchers access this important resource for their HIV research projects.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the population inclusions and data elements in the CSC’s electronic HIV testing and treatment datamarts.
  • Study examples of prior successful research projects that have utilized combined HIV-related electronic health record data from University of Chicago and Northwestern.
  • Discuss future directions including comprehensive incorporation of social determinants of health information, and expansion of datamarts to include electronic health data from other TC CFAR partners.
  • Understand how to access data within the datamarts to support future HIV clinical and population health research.

Moderator

Jessica Ridgway
Jessica Ridgway

Jessica Ridgway, MD, is an associate professor of medicine in the section of infectious diseases at the University of Chicago, director of predictive analytics for the Chicago Center for HIV Elimination, and director of the TC CFAR’s CSC. Her research utilizes large electronic medical record databases to understand HIV epidemiology across the continuum of care. She studies implementation of clinical informatics approaches for improving HIV care and prevention, with a specific focus on HIV prevention among cisgender women.

Speakers

Chad Achenbach
Chad Achenbach

Chad Achenbach, MD, is a professor of infectious diseases, preventive medicine, and biomedical engineering at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and McCormick School of Engineering. He serves as a co-investigator of the TC CFAR’s CSC and co-leads the Core’s clinical informatics initiatives. Achenbach’s research focuses on ways to improve diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes of people living with HIV in the US and low- and middle-income countries. He is interested in the development of point-of-care and home-based diagnostics and the epidemiology of HIV and other emerging infectious diseases.

Eleanor Friedman
Eleanor Friedman

Eleanor (Nora) Friedman, PhD, is an epidemiologist who works as a staff scientist in the section of infectious diseases at the University of Chicago. For the last 10 years, her research has primarily used large survey, administrative, or electronic medical record (EMR) databases. This work has provided her with specialized expertise in the acquisition, project management, and analysis of large healthcare data.

Moira McNulty
Moira McNulty

Moira McNulty, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine in the section of infectious diseases at the University of Chicago, where she serves as the director of HIV testing for the Chicago Center for HIV Elimination. Her research focuses on using implementation science and health services research approaches to improve testing and engagement in the HIV and STI care and prevention continua. In her clinical practice, McNulty cares for individuals living with HIV and provides PrEP and STI services.
