John Schneider, MD, and Aniruddha Hazra, MD will present findings and recommendations from the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine 2021 report, Prevention and Control of Sexually Transmitted Infections in the United States. Hosted by the Clinical Sciences Core, the presentation will be cross-disciplinary and relevant to multiple priorities for HIV research. Behavioral, clinical, and translation researchers are encouraged to participate, as well as practitioners and health policy leaders.

John Schneider MD, MPH is a professor of Medicine, Epidemiology and Social Work at the University of Chicago and an applied network scientist employing social-, sexual- and molecular network analyses to accelerate HIV/STI prevention intervention programs both in the United States and internationally. His work has focused on public health interventions among marginalized populations including Black SMM and transgender women, substance users and criminal justice involved populations (and the intersection of these groups). This work advances interventions through: 1) rigorous network assessment; 2) mathematic modeling and other forecasting; and 3) leveraging network structures as human interventions integrated with biomedical prevention. He is also a clinician and Medical Director of Howard Brown Health 55th street, a Federally Qualified Health Center clinic that specializes in the high quality care of mostly Black sexual and gender minorities. Most of his ideas stem from this clinical work which he truly enjoys and is privileged to be a part of.

Anirrudha (Anu) Hazra, MD is an assistant professor in the Section of Infectious Diseases and Global Health at the University of Chicago and Director of STI Services at the Chicago Center of HIV Elimination.  He is also the associate program Director for the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program at the University of Chicago.  In addition to his work at U of C, he is co-Medical Director of Howard Brown Health’s 55th Street Clinic; a prominent federally qualified health center specializing in the needs of LGBTQ people living in the Midwest. His research centers around sexually transmitted infections and their impact on sexual and gender minorities as well as other vulnerable populations living on the South Side of Chicago. These interests are complemented by his clinical work in complex HIV management, PrEP care, Hepatitis C management, gender affirming hormone therapy, high resolution anoscopy, treatment of opioid use disorder, as well as medical education.  Above all else, he is passionate about the equitable delivery of healthcare to LGBTQ people of color.
