Dr. Inger Burnett-Zeigler, associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and practicing clinical psychologist at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, published an opinion piece, Young Black People Are Killing Themselves, in the December 16 edition of the New York Times. Burnett-Zeigler, co-director of the Ending the HIV Epidemic SWG, describes the decades long trend of increasing rates of death by suicide and suicide attempts among black boys and girls, and the systemic forces that perpetuate this epidemic.
